Cumberland Women's Bowling Finishes as Runner Ups in the Midwest Collegiate Championship. While Men's Bowling Leads the Mid-South in the Top 15

DETROIT, Mich - - The Phoenix end the Midwest Collegiate Championship on a high note, with the Women's team finishing as runner ups, and the Men's team staying in the top 15 and the highest spot in the conference.

For today's edition of the championship, Cumberland Bowling had to play 16 baker games and finish in the top eight to qualify for the knockout rounds. 

After the first four games, the women sat at No. 3 with a score of 5502 and 160 pins ahead of the cut line. In the first four games, they earned 859 pins for an average of 214. For the men, they are sitting at No. 7 and only 18 pins ahead of the cut line with a score of 5856. In the first four games, they scored 840 points, with an average of 210. Both teams jumped two spots from where they were at the end of the day yesterday.

At the midway point, the women's team dropped to seventh with a score of 6106 and 21 pins ahead of the cut line. They scored 604 pins in the second round with an average of 151. For the men, they dropped to 11th with a score of 6604 and 23 pins under the cut line. They scored 748 pins in the second set with an average of 187.

After 12 games, the men's team dropped to 14th with a score of 7323 and 82 pins behind the cut line. They scored 719 pins on this 3rd set for an average score of 179 pins. The women's team is still in seventh place with a score of 6802 and 45 pins above ninth place. They scored 696 pins in this third set for an average score of 174.

After the final four games, the men's team stays at 14th and misses the top 8 with a score of 8092. They finished the last four games with a score of 792 and an average of 198. Over the 16 baker games, the Phoenix scored 3076 pins for an average score of 192. In the Mid-South, the University of Pikeville finished 16th with a score of 8058, Lindsey Wilson finished in 34th place with a score of 7619, and the University of the Cumberland's finished in 40th with a score of 7378.

The Women's team was able to maintain their seventh place until the final game to reach the knockout stages. They finished the baker games with a score of 7571. They scored 769 pins in the final four games for an average of 192. They scored 2929 pins for an average of 183 pins during the 16 baker games.

For the knockout rounds, the Phoenix would face Judson University in the 2 vs 7 matchup, and they would sweep the Eagles with scores of 235-158 and 215-155. 

For the second round, they would face Lawrence Technological University. With LTU winning the first game 215-180, and Cumberland winning game two 182-165, the final spot in the championship match would have to be decided in the third match. The match was close, and it would have to be decided in the final frame, the Phoenix would win it 183-180 behind Gracie Connelly's performance in the tenth frame.

In the finals, they would face the No. 4 seed SCAD-Savannah. However, Cumberland's run in the tournament would end there as they would be the runner ups in the Midwest Collegiate Championship after losing to SCAD-Savannah 192-148.

In the conference, the University of Pikeville jumped up to fifth with a score of 7676, but lost in the first round to SCAD-Savannah. The University of the Cumberlands finished 21st with a score of 6988. Then, Lindsey Wilson finished in 42nd with a score of 5511.

Cumberland Bowling has a few weeks off to prepare for their first Mid-South tournament, as they will head to Smyrna, Tennessee for the MSC Greater Nashville Open on October 25th, and the Brandon Burns Memorial on October 26th.
