Buckley, Tarpley Sweep Mid-South Conference Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland women's basketball claimed a clean sweep of the Mid-South Conference weekly awards as senior guard Ty Buckley was named Offensive Player of the Week while junior forward Emaleigh Tarpley earned Defensive Player of the Week honors following the Phoenix's 66-56 road victory at Life University.

Buckley delivered the offensive spark Cumberland needed after a slow opening quarter, scoring eight points across the first three periods while never leaving the floor. The senior finished with a game-high 25 points, scoring from all three levels while knocking down three three-pointers and converting an efficient 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Buckley shot 7-of-19 from the field and added four steals, three rebounds, and a block helping CU get a tough road win.

This is Buckley's second weekly honor of the season, but her first Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Tarpley anchored the Phoenix on the defensive end, recording her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Her work on the glass proved decisive, as she pulled down 10 defensive boards and three offensive rebounds to limit second-chance opportunities and shift momentum in Cumberland's favor. The junior added two steals and a blocked shot while shooting 5-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line, controlling the paint and disrupting Life's offensive rhythm throughout the contest.

Like Buckley, this is Tarpley's second conference honor this season, but this is her first Offensive Player of the Week award this season after being named Defensive Player of the Week last week. This is her third player of the week honor of her career.

The Phoenix will be at home this week to take on Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday and St. Xavier on Saturday.
