Parada Steals Win for Cumberland in Battle with the Bees

Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. - - The Cumberland Men's Tennis team took on SCAD - Atlanta this afternoon after taking on their counterparts in Savannah just last week and won 4-3.

The Bees started hot by taking the doubles point, winning two games to one. Swapping partners at the top seed, Julian Parada teamed up with Hassan Ammar and the pairing would fall 6-4.

At the second spot the Phoenix took a point with a win coming from Gabriel Godoy and Elisey Kalashnikov, 6-3. Despite the effort the Bees came back with a win of their own in the third and final spot, 6-3, taking the doubles point with it.

In what became a back and forth effort, Cumberland responded with a win of their own in the top singles spot. Daniel Wessels took over for Vitor Perreira's typical duties at number one and did not disappoint, winning in under an hour, 6-2, 6-1.

Going back to back in quick fashion, SCAD took the match lead back with a win over Paul-Daniel Meyer at the second spot, 6-4, 6-4. Almost immediately after Gabriel Godoy managed a win at the fourth singles spot, taking a two set victory to the tune of a 6-2, 6-2 sweep.

With the match tied at two a piece again the same script would be played over, with the Bees fighting to take the lead back and the Phoenix clawing right back to get it back to a 3-3 match score.

Giving the Bees a match point, the number five court went the way of the home side as Elisey Kalashnikov dropped his singles match, 6-3, 6-4. Despite dropping his doubles match, Hassan Ammar came back to tie it for the Phoenix, winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

The last match all came down to Julian Parada who won his first set and dropped his second, setting up for a thriller of a third. Going up 5-3 in the final set, Parada looked the winner but the Bees fought back to make it 6-6 and take the match to a tiebreak for the win, which Parada came out the better, 7-5.

Cumberland will take on a formidable opponent in Middle Georgia State tomorrow afternoon.
