Seven Cumberland Wrestlers Named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

LEBANON, Tenn.--Seven Cumberland University wrestlers have been named to the 2025 NAIA Men's Scholar All-American list, as announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) on Friday.

The prestigious honor recognizes student-athletes who have demonstrated excellence both on the mat and in the classroom. To qualify for the award, wrestlers must meet one of the following criteria:

Finish in the top 8 at the NAIA individual national championship tournament with at least a 3.0 GPA
Qualify for the NAIA National Championships with a 3.25 GPA
Compete in a conference tournament with a 3.5 GPA
Participate in at least 15 competitions as recorded in TrackWrestling

"The NWCA is proud to recognize these outstanding individuals who embody excellence in both athletics and academics," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer.

Cumberland's seven honorees include a mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen from various academic disciplines:

Jacob Barlow (Fr.) – Criminal Justice
Eli Clemmons (Sr.) – Business Administration
Ethan Gomez (Jr.) – Sports Management
Victor Guzman (Grad.) – Engineering Management
Rocco Horvath (Jr.) – Accounting
Anthony Pyron (Jr.) – Exercise and Sports Science
Tyler Rowland (Jr.) – History - Secondary Education

The Phoenix finished in 12th place at the NAIA National Championship this year. Guzman finished in third place in the 149-pound weight class at nationals. Jared Dinh also earned NAIA All-American honors with a fifth place finish at 141.

Cumberland continues to emphasize the balance between academic and athletic success, and these seven student-athletes exemplify that commitment.
