CLEVELAND, Tenn.--Cumberland women's track & field kicked off the Lee Fast Break Athletics Invitational with a strong showing Friday, highlighted by a pair of top-three finishes and multiple personal bests.

Freshman Isabelle Aalders headlined the day with a standout runner-up finish in the javelin. She launched a personal-best 42.08m (138-00), setting a new facility record and hitting NAIA "B" standards with the seventh-best mark in NAIA this season. 

Also earning a silver medal was fellow freshman Isabella Lehtinen, who placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.40, a personal best that ranks No. 8 in the NAIA this year. Lehtinen also hit NAIA "B" standards to qualify for nationals. 

Sophomore Ezthia Maycock added a personal best of her own in the 400-meter hurdles, taking fifth in 1:05.64, which currently ranks 26th nationally.

In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Ifunanya Muoghalu clocked 25.24 seconds to place sixth overall. Her time ranks 30th in the NAIA so far this season.

In field events, sophomore Zoe Vlk and senior Sophiat Omizi finished sixth and ninth, respectively, in the hammer throw. Vlk posted a mark of 42.79m while Omizi posted a mark of 42.25m.

Senior Hope Britt was the lone Cumberland competitor in the 1500 meters, running 6:09.19, while senior Sharon Jerop did not start her heat.

The Phoenix will wrap up competition Saturday in Cleveland tomorrow. The first event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
