Phoenix Women Place Third at MSC Championships; Lehtinen Named Freshman of the Year

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.--Cumberland women's track & field delivered a strong performance at the 2025 Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championships, finishing third overall with 157 team points. The Phoenix were led by standout freshman Isabella Lehtinen, who was named the MSC Freshman of the Year after scoring in four events, including two individual titles.

Lehtinen made a huge impact in her outdoor championship debut, winning the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.33 and claiming another gold in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.60. She also contributed to a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay and placed sixth in the 200-meter finals (25.45).

Praise Idamadudu also had a stellar meet, winning both the 400-meter dash (55.01) and 200-meter dash (23.91), while anchoring the gold medal 4x400m relay team alongside Lehtinen, Leesa Mutandwa, and Ezthia Maycock, who crossed the line in 3:51.54. Idamadudu also ran a leg of the 4x100m relay that placed second with a time of 48.60.

In addition to her work on the relays, Maycock earned silver in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.52) and placed fourth in the 400m (58.29). Mutandwa was eighth in the 400m (59.93) and added points in the high jump with a third-place tie at 1.50 meters, alongside teammate Isabelle Aalders, who cleared 1.55m for another third-place finish.

In the throws, Zoe Vlk dominated her events, winning the shot put with a mark of 12.79 meters and taking first in the discus at 39.57 meters.

Cumberland's distance squad added points to the team total as well. Lauren Crissinger led the way with a seventh-place finish in the 1500 meters (5:07.12) and eighth in the 5,000 meters (19:36.18). Sarah Wilkerson, Channon Cundiff, and Jenna Towles also contributed in the 1500 and 800, with Sharon Jerop leading the Phoenix in the 800 meters in ninth at 2:28.33.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Mutandwa, Maycock, Lehtinen, and Idamadudu clocked a second-place time of 48.60, wrapping up a strong relay showing from the Phoenix.

With a third-place team finish and multiple podium performances, the Phoenix women wrapped up the MSC Championships on a high note. The Phoenix will have one more tune up before heading to nationals at the end of May.
