Cumberland Posts Multiple Top-10 Finishes at UAB Blazer Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Cumberland track & field opened its Birmingham trip on Friday at the UAB Blazer Invitational, highlighted by multiple top-10 finishes.

On the men's side, Veron Ifill delivered one of the day's top performances, placing fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.69. Dinkon Sinisterra turned in a podium finish in the 800 meters, taking third overall in 2:10.49, while also competing in the long jump.

J'Noy Davis doubled in the sprints, running 7.15 in the 60-meter prelims before placing 14th in the 200 meters at 22.59. In the field events, Scarlassara Liyu recorded an eighth-place finish in the high jump at 1.85 meters and added a ninth-place showing in the triple jump with a mark of 12.06 meters. Oghenetega Orekevwie placed ninth in the high jump (1.80m) and 15th in the long jump (6.29m).

The women's squad was paced by Ifunanya Muoghalu, who finished seventh in the 600 meters with a time of 1:40.98. Leesa Mutandwa competed in multiple events, posting a 27th-place finish in the 200 meters (27.34) and clearing 1.50 meters to place seventh in the high jump.

In the throws, Avery Crockett and Rita Francis placed 14th and 15th in the shot put with marks of 7.97 meters and 6.82 meters, respectively.

Cumberland will remain in Birmingham and return to action Saturday at the UAB Vulcan Invitational.
