Watson named MSC Field Athlete of the Week

LEBANON, Tenn.--Mid-South Conference officials announced Monday that Cumberland senior Daveina Watson has been named the Mid-South Conference Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week following a strong showing at the Jim Freeman/Clark Woods Invitational hosted by University of Louisville.

Watson turned in one of the top performances in the NAIA this season in the shot put, recording a mark of 14.95 meters to finish seventh in a competitive field against standout Division I athletes. The throw currently ranks as the fourth-best mark in the NAIA this outdoor season and met the NAIA 'A' standard.

She followed that performance with a 34.94-meter throw in the discus, placing 23rd in a field of 36 competitors.

This marks Watson's first Mid-South Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season and marks the fourth of her career with the Phoenix.
