Women's T&F Wrap Up Day One at Lee Fast Break Invitational

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - - The Cumberland women's track and field team competed today in the Lee Fast Break Athletics Invitational, with a number of strong finishes.

Leesa Mutandwa ran in the 200m and carved out a solid finish, running a 26.54, good for 17th place overall and 4th among NAIA competitors.

Channon Cundiff and Jenna Towles both competed in the 1500m with Cundiff running to a 67th place finish in 5:24.11. Towles was just behind her in 69th place with a time of 5:30.21.

The Phoenix also had a trio running in the 5k, with Laykin Ellis, Alexa Rumpf, Wendy Komane. Komane paced Cumberland with a 25th place finish, running a 19:15.42 which also landed her in 3rd amongst NAIA competitors.

Rumpf finished behind her in 44th place in a time of 20:33.60, while Laykin Ellis rounded out the Phoenix in 46th place with her time of 21:20.26.

Rita Francis competed in the hammer throw and tossed a distance of 20.52 meters, landing her in 23rd place.

Daveina Watson wrapped up field competitions with her throw in the javelin, launching a throw of 26.23 meters, good for 14th place overall and 3rd amongst NAIA competitors.

The Phoenix will compete again tomorrow afternoon in a number of events before heading back to Lebanon.
