Phoenix Women Finish Fifth at Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Cumberland Women's Track & Field placed fifth overall at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships, totaling 35 team points in a competitive conference meet.

The University of the Cumberlands captured the team title with 294 points, followed by Lindsey Wilson with 197, Georgetown in third with 85, and Campbellsville in fourth with 79. Cumberland finished fifth with 35 points, while Bethel rounded out the standings with five.

Leesa Mutandwa led the Phoenix with a pair of scoring performances, highlighted by a third-place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.55 meters to score six team points. Mutandwa also added five points on the track, placing fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 59.22 seconds. Ifunanya Muoghalu contributed five points of her own with a strong fourth-place finish in the 600 meters, crossing the line in 1:41.02.

The Phoenix distance group added key points throughout the meet, led by Wendy Komane, who scored in two events. Komane finished fourth in the mile with a time of 5:38.32 to earn five points and added four more points with a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters in 2:32.45. Jenna Towles also scored in the middle-distance events, placing fifth in the 1000 meters in 3:24.47 to contribute four points.

Cumberland added valuable points in the relays, as the 4x400-meter relay team of Zora Neal, Komane, Towles, and Mutandwa placed third with a time of 4:28.84 to earn six team points. Neal also competed individually in the 60-meter prelims, finishing 11th in 8.23 seconds, while Alexa Rumpf added depth in the distance events with a ninth-place finish in the 800 meters.

In the field events, Avery Crockett and Rita Francis represented the Phoenix in the shot put. Crockett finished in 13th place at 8.24m and Francis took 15th at 6.74m.
