Aalders Headlines Day One of Action in MSC Outdoor T&F Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - - The Cumberland Women's Track and Field team kicked off the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championship this afternoon, being led with several medal finishes.

First up, in the field Zoe Vlk and Sophiat Omizi finished two and three in the hammer throw, first with Vlk's distance of 44.87m, grabbing 8 points for Cumberland. Omizi grabbed 6 more points for the Phoenix with her third place throw of 42.77m.

Isabelle Aalders then followed their efforts up with a javelin throw of 35.82m, a distance that would not be topped by any of her competitors, adding 10 points to CU's total.

Switching gears onto the track, both Ifunanya Muoghalu and Isabella Lehtinen ran in the 100m prelims. Muoghalu ran her time in 12.46 seconds, good for third place, while Lehtinen took 11th place with a time of 12.82 seconds.

Lauren Crissinger was the only Phoenix to compete in the 3000m steeple and was just shy of taking first place in the event. Crissinger took 8 more points for Cumberland with her second place time of 12:31.38.

In the 10k, Sami Parker grabbed a 5th place finish with her time of 42:15.85. Hope Britt kept things going in the mid-distance events with a 4th place time of 35:28.07 in the 5k racewalk.

Finally, Cumberland were able to score 8 more points with their performance in the 4x800m relay. Channon Cundiff, Ezthia Maycock, Sarah Wilkerson, and Sharon Jerop combined for a second place time of 9:56.12.

Cumberland is sat in 3rd place overall after the first day of competition, gathering 49 total points, just 7 points off 2nd place.

Action will continue tomorrow morning in Williamsburg.
