Infante and Whyte earn River States First Team Accolades; Corradini named to Second Team

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland Men's Volleyball was well represented on the River States Conference All-Conference selections as Joao Infante and Jacob Whyte were both selected to the First Team while Francesco Corradini was selected to the Second Team, as was announced by the league this afternoon.

Joao Infante has made an immediate impact in his first year with the Phoenix. The junior had a big debut with 17 kills in his first match, hitting .540 and has continued to play at a high level all season.

Infante currently leads the nation in kills posting 457, an average of 4.12 kills per set.  He has recorded 20 or more kills six different times including a season-high 28 in a win over No. 12 Reinhardt. The Portuguese outside was voted River States Conference Attacker of the Week three times, as well as Defender of the Week once. Infante finished second on the team in digs with 184 and added in 74 blocks on the net.

His partner on the outside, Jacob Whyte, was voted Second Team Mid-South Conference last season and followed that up with a First Team selection in the River States Conference this year.

The Graduate Student from Lockport, Illinois totaled 354 kills and was recently named RSC Attacker of the Week as well as the programs first NAIA National Attacker of the Week. Whyte averaged over three kills per set and also added in 145 digs.

Leading one of the nations best blocks, Francesco Corradini came in and made a massive impact straight from the get-go. Playing in 28 of the teams 30 matches this regular season, the Italian never failed to record at least one block every time he touched the floor, including 13 games with 5 or more total blocks. His total number of blocks, 127, leads the nation up to this point.

Corradini highlighted the Phoenix defense with three River States Conference Defender of the Week Awards, as well as a pair of NAIA National Defender of the Week Honors. Chipping in on the attack as well, Corradini added in triple-digit kills with a 108 total on a strong .338 hit percentage.

The Phoenix moved on in the River States Conference Tournament with a win over 6-seed Brescia yesterday evening. Cumberland is set to take on the 2-seed Campbellsville in the conference semifinals on Friday.
