Inclement Weather Forces Tournament Format Change; Cumberland Softball Season Concludes

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.--Due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions at Austin Peay State University, the Mid-South Conference has announced a format change to the 2025 MSC Softball Tournament. The double-elimination format has been revised to single elimination in order to complete the tournament within the available window for grounds crew and facility access.

As a result of the format change, Cumberland's scheduled elimination game against Lindsey Wilson has been canceled, and both teams have been eliminated from tournament play.

The Mid-South Conference issued a statement on the matter:

"While the champion of the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament is scheduled to be crowned on Sunday, the weather turned out to be the ultimate winner.

Continuous rain in the Clarksville, Tennessee area has made field conditions unplayable and impossible to finish the tournament in its current double-elimination format.

The tournament is reduced to a single elimination tournament per Article IV, H, 1 to help determine its champion and the team that receives the automatic bid into the NAIA national tournament.

    The rule states:

In the event of inclement weather, the following will be used to determine the conference's automatic qualifier:

If inclement weather interrupts/cancels play so that it becomes impossible to complete a double-elimination bracket by the qualifying deadline, the tournament will become single elimination. Any     teams with a loss remaining in the bracket would be automatically eliminated from the tournament."

The Phoenix close out the 2025 season with a 17-27 overall record after earning two wins in the MSC Tournament.
