Mendez Sisters Continue Strong Run at Regional ITA Event

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - - The Cumberland women's tennis team took part in the 2025 ITA NAIA Women's Southeast Regional Championships this past weekend as the Mendez sisters made a run in doubles action.

Juanita and Valentina Mendez paired back up in doubles and looked a very strong side, winning a pair of matches before the latter would have to withdraw from injury. In the opening round the side didn't drop a game to Georgetown and then upset the Cumberlands, 6-3, but were unable to field a team their next round against Lindsey Wilson.

Both sisters also played in singles as Valentina Mendez won in her first round matchup against Midway, 6-2, 6-3. Due to her medical withdrawal in doubles action, she was unable to take part in her next match and allowed a walkover for the Cumberlands. Her sister, Juanita Mendez, was unable to make it out of the first round, falling to IU Southeast, 6-4, 6-2.

Asya Tilsim Timur also took part in the action and came out of the opening round with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Georgetown. In her second round matchup she had the tall task of playing Marina Nagai from the Cumberlands but performed admirably, falling 6-1, 6-1.
