Men’s Bowling Struggled With Inconsistency As They Finish In The Middle of the Kegel/IBSPA Collegiate Classic

ADDISON, Ill. – The Great Start For the Phoenix Couldn't Help As Cumberland Falls To The Back Half Of Standings During the Two Days.

Cumberland Men's Bowling finished in 37th out of 68 teams that bowled in the Kegel/ISBPA Collegiate Classic. The Phoenix scored 7829 pins over the two days. Within the conference, Pikeville finished in 15th with a score of 8181, Midway finished in 19th with a score of 8063, the Cumberlands finished in 34th with a score of 7855, and Campbellsville finished in 49th with a score of 7596.

Since there are 68 teams that are competing in Addison, there had to be two different "squads" with the Phoenix placing in Squad B.

After the first game, the Phoenix sit in second place in squad B with a score of 1099. Including the scores from squad A, Cumberland is sixth place.  After the second game, Cumberland sits in eighth place in squad B with a score of 1968. The Phoenix scored 869 pins in the second game. With both squads, the Phoenix sit in 23rd place.

After the third game, the Phoenix would jump back into the top three with a score of 3017, which is good for third in squad B. Cumberland would score 1049 pins in their third game, which would facilitate the major jump. When looking at the whole tournament after the third game, Cumberland jumped 11 spots from the second game to 12th. After the fourth game, the Phoenix would drop back down to ninth in the squad with a score of 3929, only scoring 912 pins in game four. Cumberland would drop all the way to 28th in the standings. 

After the final game of day one, Cumberland would drop to 13th in squad B and 33rd in the tournament with a score of 911 in game five and 4840 pins in the five total games. Leading the way after day one is Calumet College, who has scored 5486 pins. Mount Mercy (5522), Wisconsin-Whitewater (5520), Lawrence Tech (5364), and Marian (IN) (5306) round out the top five.

Individually, Braxton Dedmon would lead the way for the Phoenix scoring 1081 pins (216.2 average) and a team high 244 in game three. Jacob Ballenger scored 1030 pins (206 pin average) and Ethan Gomez scored 913 pins (182.6 pin average). Those three were the only Phoenix bowlers to bowl all five games. Kaden Yarborough and Malik Randolph would bowl three games, with Yarborough averaging 181 pins per game and Randolph averaging 174.7 pins. Finally, Carter Baylog and Logan Beasley bowled two games, with Baylog averaging 189 pins and Beasley averaging 185.5.

Heading into day two, the Phoenix are looking to get back into the top of the tournament with 16 baker games.

After the first four games of the second day, Cumberland remains 13th in squad B with a score of 5581. The Phoenix were able to score 741 pins (185.25 average). Looking at the overall standings, Cumberland drops three spots to 36th. After the next four games, Cumberland dropped one spot to 14th in squad B with a score of 757 in the four games (189.25 average). The Phoenix sit at a tied 38th spot with New Jersey Institute of Technology with a score of 6338.

After the third set of baker games, the Phoenix would jump back into 13th in squad B with a score of 7136, and have a big jump back to 33rd after scoring 798 pins (199.5 average). After the final games of the tournament, Cumberland would finish in 13th in squad B and 37th overall with a score of 7829. The Phoenix scored 693 pins (173.25 average) in the final four games and 2989 pins (186.8125 average) in the 16 baker games. The top five of the tournament were Calumet College with 8926 pins, Wisconsin-Whitewater with 8947 pins, Mount Mercy with 8817 pins, St. Ambrose with 8677 pins, and Lawrence Tech with 8627 pins.

The Phoenix are back in Mid-South Conference action next weekend as they head to Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the Lynne Jordan Memorial on Saturday and the Thomas N Burris Memorial on Sunday.
