Men’s Bowling Would Surge To Reach the Top Ten In First Day of Team Play

SMYRNA, Tenn. -- Phoenix would bounce back in the second session of the day to reach the top half heading into the final day of play.

Cumberland Men's Bowling scored 6153 pins in day two of the USBC Sectionals, finishing in tenth place.

The USBC Sectionals are divided into two days and two sessions in those days, so there are four sessions of 16 baker games in those sessions.

In the first session, the Phoenix started with a score of 767 in the first four games, including a 230 game in game four. After that opener, Cumberland would score 737 pins heading into the halfway point of the first session.

After that halfway point, the Phoenix would knock down 718 pins as they looked to rebound in the final four games in the first session. Finally, in that last session, Cumberland would get 804 points and finish in 14th place with a score of 3026. The Phoenix sits 296 pins under the cut line, which is held by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

To start the second session, Cumberland would continue the momentum and score 800 pins to open the second session. Then the Phoenix would drop with a score of 710 pins to head into the halfway point of the second session.

In the second half of the session, Cumberland would start it off very strong, with a score of 863, including a high of 277 in game 26. That 277 would be the second highest score of the session thus far. In the final set of baker games for day one of the tournament, the Phoenix would knock down 754 pins, for a final total of 3127 pins in the second session, and 6153 pins in day two. Cumberland sits 380 pins behind the cut line. 

The four teams currently above the cut line are: Belmont Abbey College (6701 pins), Webber International (6689), SCAD-Savannah (6618), and Quincy University (6533).

The Phoenix are back in action tomorrow as they look to improve on their day today and make a case to reach the ITC.
