Cumberland Men's Bowling Holds Top Ten Finish After a Strong Performance in Day Three

SMYRNA, Tenn. -- Phoenix stayed consistent throughout the final two sessions to remain in the top half of the Smyrna Sectional.

Cumberland Men's Bowling finishes the USBC Sectionals in ninth place with a score of 12545.

The Phoenix would enter day three in tenth place with a score of 6153 pins. To begin day three, Cumberland would start out strong, scoring 840 pins in the first four games. Heading into the halfway point of the third session, the Phoenix would score 749 pins.

After that halfway point, Cumberland would score 798 pins in the third set of games to set themselves up in the top ten. Finally, in the last four games of the third session, the Phoenix would score 782 pins and finish the third session with 3169 pins in session three and 9322 pins in the tournament, which keeps Cumberland in tenth place. 

The Phoenix sits 461 pins under the cut line for the ITC, which belongs to Quincy University.

Beginning the last session of the USBC Sectionals, Cumberland started strong, scoring 832 pins in the first set of four baker games. In the second set, the Phoenix would add onto their strong performance, scoring 866 pins heading into the final eight games of the tournament.

After the halfway point in the final session, Cumberland would continue their great play and score 822 pins. In the final set of games in the USBC Sectionals, the Phoenix would score 703 pins, with the final total of the session coming out to 3223 pins, 6392 pins in day three, and finishing the USBC Sectionals in ninth place with a score of 12545.

The Phoenix have a short break as they get ready for the NAIA National Championship next weekend in Lansing, Michigan, starting on March 19th. Cumberland will be the 11 seed as they face off against the six-seed Marian (Ind.) in the first round.
