Bowling Delivers Positive Day One of USBC Sectionals

LEBANON, Tenn. -- Cumberland Bowling has a strong day of singles competition with two Phoenix bowlers finishing in the top 25.

On the first day of the USBC Sectionals, each team would have bowlers compete in six single games to try and make it to Green Bay for the Intercollegiate Singles Competition.

For the Cumberland Men's Team, they would send three bowlers, Jacob Ballenger, Ethan Gomez, and Carter Baylog, to the Fort Worth regional. While the Cumberland Women's Team would send seven bowlers, Serenity Freeman, Gracie Connelly, Kathleen Schraer, Kaylie Gibson, Jennifer Chiarillo, Abby Jay Jardines, and Olivia Hailey to the Smyrna regional.

On the Men's side, Ballenger would finish in 92nd place out of 195 bowlers with a score of 1162, with Gomez finishing right behind Ballenger in 97th place with a score of 1158. Finally, Baylog finished in 161st place with a score of 1024. The top six made it to the ISC, with the cut line score being 1346.

For the Women's tournament, Chiarillo would lead all Cumberland bowlers with a score of 1220 through six games, which would be good for 19th out of 153 competitors. Freeman would finish in 22nd with a score of 1201, which included a final game score of 255 to jump into the 1200s. Connelly would score 1093 pins, and finish 77th, Gibson would finish in 91st place with a score of 1066, Shraer would finish just behind Gibson in 94th with a score of 1062. Haley would finish in 122nd place with a score of 988, and Jardines would finish with a score of 971 and be in 130th place. The top five in this sectional made it to the ISC, with the cutoff being at 1339 pins.

The Phoenix have a short break, as they will begin their team competition on Saturday, March 14th with 32 baker games to begin the ITC qualifying round, with both teams competing in the Smyrna sectional.
