Men’s Bowling Finishes In The Middle Of The Pack In The First Of Two Tournaments In Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Phoenix finished just outside the top five in the Lynne Jordan Memorial Tournament.

Cumberland Men's Bowling finished in sixth place in the MSC Lynne Jordan Memorial Tournament with a score of 5610. Looking at the top five, Milligan University won the tournament with a score of 6156, McKendree University finished in second with a score of 5940, Belmont Abbey finished in third with a score of 5831, Pikeville finished in fourth with a score of 5821, and Tennessee Wesleyan finished in fifth with a score of 5684. 

After the first game of the tournament, the Phoenix scored 1068 pins, which was good for fourth place. Pikeville led the field after one game with a score of 1112, Milligan scored 1090 pins for second, and McKenderee scored 1089 pins for third. Ethan Gomez had a monster first game, where Gomez scored 277 pins, which was tied for first in the whole tournament in that first game. Heading into the halfway point of the standard games, Cumberland scored 939 pins, and dropped to 6th place for a total score of 2007, with the Cumberlands and Belmont Abbey jumping the Phoenix with scores of 1054 (2089 total) and 1012 (2016 total) respectively. 
 
After the third game of the tournament, the Phoenix stayed in sixth with a score of 2988, and 981 pins. They sat in a decent position against Belmont Abbey, who was 77 pins ahead of Cumberland, and Tennessee Wesleyan, who was 39 pins behind the Phoenix. Finally, after the final game before the baker games, Cumberland was able to jump the Cumberlands and get into fifth place with a score of 4087, and 1099 pins in game four.

After the first four baker games, the Phoenix scored 832 pins, for an average score of 208 pins to remain in fifth place with a total score of 4919. They sat in a solid position as they head into the final four games of the tournament as they were 36 pins behind Belmont Abbey and 63 pins in front of Tennessee Wesleyan. Sadly for the Phoenix, they couldn't remain in the top five as they scored 691 pins, for an average of 172.25 to reach that score of 5610. 

Individually for Cumberland, Carter Baylog led the way, with a score of 860, and an average of 215, which was good for 14th in the tournament. Braxton Dedmon was the other Phoenix bowler to finish in the top 20, with a score of 851 through four games, and an average of 212.8, which was good for 18th. Gomez was able to reach 21st after that great first game with a score of 839, and an average of 209.8. Jacob Ballenger scored 786 pins, for an average of 196.5, and reached 39th place. Finally, Kaden Yarborough scored 751 pins, for an average of 187.8 and earning 49th place. 

The Phoenix get to stay in the Bluegrass state as they play tomorrow in Louisville in the MSC Thomas N Burris Memorial Tournament.
