Women’s Bowling Gets Second Runner Up Of The Weekend With Two Top Five Finishers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Freeman places first for the whole tournament, as Cumberland has another strong performance in the Thomas N Burris Memorial Tournament.

Cumberland Women's Bowling finished in second in the MSC Thomas N Burris Memorial tournament for the second straight time this weekend with a score of 5481. Pikeville would win back to back tournaments as they finished with a score of 5674. Tennessee Wesleyan finished in third with a score of 5263, the Cumberlands finished in fourth with a score of 5091, and Shawnee state finished in fifth with a score of 4582. Individually, Serenity Freeman would add to her strong day yesterday with a first place finish today with a score of 901 pins.

After the first game, Cumberland would start the day out strong with a 1077 score and begin the day in the lead ahead of Pikeville, who scored a 1052, and the Cumberlands, who scored a 1030. Freeman would start her day out strong too, as the senior would get a 259 to get the day going. Heading into the halfway point for the standard games, the Phoenix's lead would only be five, as Cumberland would score 926 to get to a total score of 2003, and Pikeville would score 946 pins to get to a score of 1998, and the Cumberlands would score 955 pins to get a score of 1985.

After game three, the Phoenix would get jumped by Pikeville as Cumberland would score 928 pins to reach a pin count of 2931 pins. Pikeville would score 988 pins to jump to the lead with a score of 2986. Meanwhile, Tennessee Wesleyan would jump to third with a score of 952 in game three for a total score of 2901. Individually, Freeman would get back into the lead with a 212 in game three. After the final game of the standard games, the Phoenix would remain in second with a score of 1008 to reach a final score of 3939. Pikeville would be able to extend their lead with a score of 1034 to get a final score of 4020. Cumberland would have a strong lead over the rest of the field as the Phoenix had an over 100 pin count lead over Tennessee Wesleyan and the Cumberlands.

After the first four games in the baker set, the Phoenix would have the deficit increased by Pikeville as the Phoenix scored 736 pins, for an average of 184, to get a total score of 4675. Meanwhile, Pikeville would score 818 pins, for an average of 204.5. Finally, the Phoenix would be able to score 806 pins in the final four baker games to reach their 5481 score, and Pikeville would score 999 pins to increase their lead and get to 5674 pins.

Individually, Freeman would average 225.25 pins and be the sixth bowler in the tournament to reach the 900 threshold. Gracie Connelly would also finish in the top five as Connelly would score 825 for an average of 206.25 and finish fifth. Kathleen Schraer would finish in 12th with a score of 777 and a 194.25 average, and Madison Taylor would finish 23rd with a score of 699, for an average of 174.75. Jennifer Chiarillo would only bowl three games and average a 169 in those three games, and Carlie Semrau would only bowl one game, but Semrau would bowl a 230 in game four. 

The Phoenix have a short rest, as they have the Mid-South Conference Tournament starting in under a week, with the first day of the tournament beginning on February 5th.
