Cumberland Men’s Bowling Finishes in the Top 25 in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Phoenix showed highs and lows in the Hoosier Classic as Cumberland finished in the top third in the Hoosier Classic. 

Cumberland Men's Bowling finished 25th out of 78 teams in the Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic with a score of 7667.

Looking at the first day of the tournament, Cumberland bowled five standard games, and the Phoenix would start the Hoosier Classic strong with a score of 1124 in game one, which put them in second place. Logan Beasley and Braxton Dedmon had strong first games, with Beasley scoring a 257 and Dedmon scoring a 236. After the second game, Cumberland dropped to fifth place with a score of 1011 in game two, and a score of 2135 in two games. 

After game three, Cumberland would struggle and drop to 16th with a score of 3005. The Phoenix scored 870 pins in game three. Then, after the fourth game, the Phoenix continue to drop as they fall to 24th place with a score of 3946. Cumberland would improve from their game three score, being able to knock down 941 pins. Finally, after the fifth game, the Phoenix would finally jump in the standings, as they rose to 23rd place with a score of 4936, scoring 990 pins in the final game of day one. 

Within the conference, Pikeville is sitting in 20th place with a score of 4983, Tennessee Wesleyan is in 22nd place with a score of 4967, the Cumberlands is sitting in 42nd place with a score of 4802, Lindsey Wilson is in 48th place with a score of 4703, Campbellsville is in 51st place with a score of 4685, Union Commonwealth is in 52nd place with a score of 4683, Midway is in 59th place with a score of 4623.

Entering day two, Cumberland will be looking to jump up in the standings to try and reach the top eight to get into the knockout rounds.

After the first five baker games, the Phoenix would be able to find some movement, as Cumberland rose two spots to 21st place with a score of 926 (185.2 average) in the five baker games for a total score of 5862. After 10 baker games, Cumberland jumps another two spots to 19th as the Phoenix score 939 pins (187.8 pin average) to get to a total score of 6801 pins. After the final five baker games, the Phoenix fell down to 25th place with a score of 7667. The Phoenix scored 866 pins in the final five games (173.2 average). In the 15 baker games, Cumberland scored 2704 pins, for an average of 180.26 pins per game. 

The Phoenix miss the top eight and miss the knockout rounds. The top eight teams were Wichita State (8510 pins), Aquinas (8482 pins), McKendree University (8312 pins), Calumet College of St. Joseph (8291 pins), SCAD-Savannah (8223 pins), Newman (8212 pins), Trine (8126), and Webber International (8086). 

Looking at the conference, Pikeville finished in 15th with a score of 7820, Tennessee Wesleyan finished in 16th place with a score of 7782. Campbellsville finished in 41st place with a score of 7378, Cumberlands finished in 52nd place with a score of 7220, Union Commonwealth finished in 55th place with a score of 7146 with a score of 7146, Midway finished in 56th place with a score of 7143, and Lindsey Wilson finished in 62nd place with a score of 7112. 

Individually, Carter Baylog led the way for the Phoenix, scoring 1039 pins in five games, for an average of 207.8. Jacob Ballenger scored 1023 pins for an average of 204.6. Ethan Gomez scored an even 1000, for a 200 average. Braxton Dedmon and Logan Beasley played four games, with Dedmon averaging 194 pins in those four games, and Beasley averaging 180.5. Finally, Malik Randolph and Kaden Yarborough bowled one game, with Randolph scoring a 224 in the final game, and Yarborough bowling a 179.

Cumberland will be getting some well deserved time off, then they have to get ready for the USBC Sectional Tournament on March 14th-15th.
