Bowling Earns Spot Into USBC Sectionals

LEBANON, Tenn. -- Phoenix learned where they are bowling for the USBC sectionals tournament on March 13th-15th on Wednesday.

In the selection show hosted by the USBC, they announced the teams that will be competing in the USBC sectionals tournament for a chance for the Inter Collegiate Tournament in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The Phoenix learned that they will be playing in the Smyrna sectional at the Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee.

The selections were decided by the USBC power ratings during week 22, which had Cumberland Men's Bowling at 38th, and Cumberland Women's Bowling at 15th.

On the men's side, Cumberland will be going against Wisconsin-Whitewater, Webber International, SCAD-Savannah, Purdue, Belmont Abbey, Tennessee Wesleyan, Emmanuel, Lindenwood, Quincy, Baker, Vincennes, William Penn, Florida State, Coe College, SCAD-Atlanta, Midway, Southeastern Illinois, Campbellsville, and Mobile. The Phoenix are the 11th ranked team in this pod.

On the women's side, Cumberland will be going against, SCAD-Savannah, Lindenwood, William Penn, Tennessee Wesleyan, Coe College, Emmanuel, the Cumberlands, Jacksonville State, Columbia, Culver-Stockton, Mount St. Mary's, Purdue, UAB, SCAD-Atlanta, Goshen, Belmont Abbey, Baker, and Union Commonwealth. In this sectional pod, the Phoenix are ranked fourth.

In the three day event, the first day is focused on the individual bowlers, and the top 24 bowlers out of all of the competitors in all four sectionals will make the Intercollegiate Singles Tournament. This will include six standard games that everyone will bowl to qualify.

The second and third day will have 64 total baker games, 32 games each day, and will have the top four teams in each sectional qualify for the Intercollegiate Team Championship.

In the 2025 USBC Sectionals, Cumberland was placed into the Fort Worth sectional, with the men's team finishing in 12th with a score of 12238 (191.22 average) and the women's team finishing in 10th with a score of 11466 (179.16 average).

With this selection, the Phoenix don't have to go far to their next competition in Smyrna, as they look to reach the Intercollegiate Singles and Team Tournaments in Green Bay through the USBC Sectionals on March 13-15.
