Cumberland Women’s Bowling Moves On In The Mid-South Tournament Behind Multiple Dominant Sets

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Phoenix takes care of business as they move on to Friday's matches in the main bracket.

Cumberland Women's Bowling watched on in the first round of the Mid-South Tournament as they were the No. 2 seed due to their 31-3 record in conference play. The matchups are decided in three sets, the first is a standard game with five bowlers, then its five baker games for set two, and if it's tied in set two, it's a best-of-seven baker game series. 

Their second round matchup would be determined by the winner of the No. 7 seed Union Commonwealth and the No. 10 seed Brescia. Union Commonwealth would be able to sweep Brescia 2-0. The other matchup in the first round was the No. 8 seed Lindsey Wilson facing off against the No. 9 seed Campbellsville, with the Tigers winning in three sets 2-1, and a 4-2 win in set three. 

Cumberland would have to face a Bulldogs team with some momentum, but were able to dominate Union Commonwealth in a two set sweep. The Phoenix won the first set 924-776, and in the second set, won by even more with a score of 944-757. Cumberland was able to put the most points up by any team in a single match, not including the three set matches. 

Outside of the Phoenix winning, No. 1 Pikeville was able to sweep Campbellsville in two sets, No. 4 seed Cumberlands sweeping No. 5 seed Midway, and No. 6 seed Shawnee State upsetting No. 3 seed Tennessee Wesleyan 2-0.

For tomorrow morning's matchups, the Phoenix will be in a matchup against Shawnee State in a two-seed vs six-seed matchup, and Pikeville will be facing off against the Cumberlands in one side of the bracket in a one-seed vs four seed matchup. The other side will have No. 10 Brescia against No. 9 Campbellsville, with the winner facing No. 5 Midway, No. 8 Lindsey Wilson vs No. 7 Union Commonwealth,  with the winner facing No. 3 Tennessee Wesleyan.

The Phoenix have an early morning tomorrow, but have a chance to continue their journey to their first Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship on Friday.
