Men’s Bowling Dominates In Day Two of MSC Conference Championships To Reach Final

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Phoenix advanced to the MSC Conference Tournament Final on Saturday behind strong performances in all four sets.

Cumberland Men's Bowling played two games on Friday during the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The first was against No. 5 Midway, which the Phoenix was able to sweep the Eagles 2-0 with a score of 988-856 in the first set and a score of 953-924 in the second set. In the other match in the main bracket, No. 7 Shawnee State would upset No. 3 Pikeville in three sets, including a 4-2 win in set three.

This would set the stage for the semifinals between the No. 1 Phoenix, and No. 7 Bears, with the winner reaching the finals on Saturday. Cumberland was able to sweep Shawnee State, winning the first set 982-917, and winning the second set 1043-955. With this win, the Phoenix will be heading to their second conference championship match in program history, with the first being a successful win in 2013 against Pikeville.

For who the Phoenix will have to play on Saturday, that will depend on the first match tomorrow, as the No. 3 seed Pikeville, who beat No. 2 seed Tennessee Wesleyan, will have a rematch against No. 7 Shawnee State in a best-of-seven baker game series to determine who will face Cumberland later on. If the Phoenix were to lose the next game, they will have one final, winner-take-all match right after that on Saturday.

Cumberland has a chance to get their second Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday and have their first conference championship sweep in program history!
