LaRue’s Dominant Week Leads to NAIA Player of the Week Honor

LEBANON, Tenn.--Dylan LaRue has been named the NAIA Baseball Player of the Week, becoming the first Phoenix player to earn the national honor since Angel Mercado in 2006.

The Blanco, Texas native hit .524 (11-for-21) during the week with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 12 RBI, posting a 1.048 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage. LaRue collected six extra-base hits and recorded multi-hit performances in four of the five games.

LaRue's biggest performance came in Cumberland's 25-0 victory over Siena Heights, where he went 4-for-5 with a triple, home run, and five RBI in one of the most explosive offensive showings of the season. He followed that performance later in the day with another home run and three RBI in a 15-2 win, helping lead the Phoenix to a weekend sweep in which Cumberland scored 63 runs across four games.

He opened the week with a double and two RBI against No. 5 Johnson, before continuing his strong play during the Siena Heights series by going 6-for-9 with eight RBI in the opening doubleheader. LaRue added two more doubles and drove in two runs across the final two games of the series.

The national honor follows LaRue's Mid-South Conference Player of the Week recognition earlier in the week and marks the first conference Player of the Week award of his career. He also became the second Phoenix player this season to earn MSC Player of the Week honors, joining Cohl Proctor.

Through 21 games this season, LaRue ranks among the NAIA leaders with 38 hits (7th), 77 total bases (3rd), eight home runs (10th), nine doubles (20th), and three triples (12th) while batting .447 with a .906 slugging percentage.

LaRue is the first Cumberland player to earn NAIA Player of the Week since Mercado in 2006, and the first Phoenix national weekly award winner since Carter Rost earned NAIA Pitcher of the Week in 2025. Shawn Schaffer also claimed the national pitching honor in 2010.

Cumberland returns to action this afternoon at Bryan.
