Women’s Bowling Produces Strong Performances In First Half of Baker Play

SMYRNA, Tenn -- Phoenix sit in the top half after a strong start to the USBC Sectionals.

The Phoenix sat in eighth place with a score of 5898 on the second day of the USBC Sectionals. 

The two days of baker play are broken up into four sessions which have 16 baker games in them.

In the first session, the Phoenix would have a comfortable start, scoring 743 pins in the first four games, including a 221 in game one. The Phoenix would be consistent heading into their second set of baker games, scoring 744 pins in games 5-8. 

After the halfway point, Cumberland would knock down 774 pins in games 9-12, then finish off the first session with 676 pins in the final four games to score 2937 pins. They sat in eighth place and are 182 pins behind the cut line, which is held by the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Heading into the second session, the Phoenix soared with a score of 850 in the first four games of the second session. In the second set of four games, Cumberland would score 771 pins to maintain their spot in the standings heading into the second half of the session.

After the third set of four baker games, Cumberland would struggle, only scoring 675 pins, but have one last set of baker games to make a push in the first day of baker games. Finally, in that last set of baker games, the Phoenix would score 665 pins for a final score of 5898 pins in day two, and 2961 pins in the second session. Cumberland would sit 231 pins behind the cut line.

The four teams currently above the cut line are: Jacksonville State (7061 pins), Lindenwood University (6365 pins), SCAD-Savannah (6343), and UAB (6129).

Cumberland will finish off the USBC Sectionals tomorrow as they will play 32 more baker games as they look to reach the top four and punch their ticket to the ITC.
