Volleyball Look to Pick up Back to Back Conference Wins on the Road This Weekend

LEBANON, TENN. - - The Phoenix will face Oakland City and Brescia this weekend with the chance to make it back to back conference wins.

Cumberland come into the weekend with a 9-9 overall record and are 5-4 on the season. In their most recent match CU struggled against a strong Georgetown side, losing 0-3.

The Phoenix will be hoping Joao Infante can keep up his incredible form. The senior outside hitter earned his fourth RSC Attacker of the Week honor. Infante leads the conference in kills per set, averaging 4.33. Infante has racked up 290 kills over 18 games, 36 more than second place. On the defensive end Francesco Corradini has been consistent and leads the conference in blocks per set with 1.40, while Alexander Heuer sits second in digs per set with 3.25. Freshman Austin Kuehler has made an instant impact for the Phoenix, averaging 16 assists per set, as he sits second in the conference. The Phoenix are averaging a .243 hitting percentage. Cumberland will be looking for these players to keep up their momentum going into the next two conference games.

Oakland City comes into the match up with a 14-7 overall record and are 5-4 in conference play. In their most recent match up Georgetown defeated the Mighty Oaks 3-1.

Oakland City will look for Bryan Pepen to make some big plays, as he is averaging 3.58 kills per set and has the second most total kills in conference play. Jannis Pfeifer has been impressive from the service line as he currently has 24 service aces on the season. Kevin Pavione has been one of the Mighty Oaks best players on the defensive end, with 48 blocks on the season.

In all time history the Mighty Oaks hold the narrow 1-2 record, with the last match going the way of Oakland City by a score of 1-3. The last time Cumberland got the victory over the home side was 2025 at home when they took the 3-1 win.

On Saturday the Phoenix will face Brescia. The Bearcats come into the match up with an 8-12 overall record and are 3-7 in conference play. In their most recent match up Brescia fell 3-0 to Campbellsville University.

Joaquin Palacios will have his hands full as he faces Infante at the net, however, Palacios will have confidence as he sits second in the conference in blocks per set averaging 1.40. Mustafa Yildiz is top five in the conference on hitting percentage with .352, so the Bearcats will be hoping he can keep up the consistency.

In all time history the Phoenix have dominated going 6-0 with the most recent match up coming earlier in the season when CU defeated Brescia 3-1 at home. Cumberland will be hoping to continue their dominance over Brescia and take another conference victory.

Friday night's game is set to begin at 7PM CT. Catch the game live on the Might Oaks Network. Saturday afternoon match up will start at 1PM CT, fans can pay to watch on Hudl.
