Phoenix Sweep Midway on the Road

Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - - Volleyball picks up their second win of the week as they sweep Midway in three straight sets.

It was an impressive night for Alexander Heuer who had eight kills and a .412 hitting percentage, while Joao Infante and Mason Bryan both had nine each. Frederick Amegbletor picked up two service aces, and Abdallah Roshdy helped his team out with 31 assists. Zendai Richards led the way in digs with seven on the night. The Phoenix finished with a .321 hitting percentage and held their opponents to a .184.

Cumberland got off to the perfect start with a four point run to give themselves the early advantage. Midway clawed back three points in a row to cut the score to 11-9, however, Cumberland answered with three points of their own with two kills from Amegbletor to make it 14-9. Cumberland had all the momentum and kept their lead for the remainder of the set as a Carlos Ramos kill made it 25-21.

Cumberland made an identical start in the second set as they found themselves 4-0 very quickly. The Phoenix kept picking up points and ensuring they kept their lead. Late in the set Midway rallied with a five point run towards the end of the set, however, it wasn't enough to cut the deficit as the Phoenix took the second set 25-22.

The Eagles took the lead for the first time in the third set as they got off to a strong start and startled the Phoenix at 4-5. However, Cumberland worked hard and didn't let it get the better of them as they regained control through a three point run to take the lead back at 7-5. Back to back kills from Hendrickson extended the Phoenix lead to 11-7. The home side managed to cut the deficit to only one point at 15-14 and put pressure on the Phoenix. The momentum took a turn as Midway found themselves 19-23 up. Cumberland went on an incredible six point run to bring the set level at 24-24. An Infante kill ensured the Phoenix took the set 26-24 and swept Midway in three sets.

Cumberland are back in action tomorrow evening as they return to the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena to host IU East at 7PM CT.
