Women's Cross Country Finishes Regular Season with Eighth Place at NAIA Appalachian Challenge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--Cumberland women's cross country finishes with an eighth-place finish at the NAIA Appalachian Challenge.

The team competed strongly at the NAIA Appalachian Challenge, finishing eighth in a competitive field stacked with nationally ranked programs. The Phoenix recorded 251 points, finishing just behind St. Francis (Ind.) and ahead of Southeastern University. No.1 Milligan won the event with 44 points followed by No. 8 Montreat. No. 6 Cumberlands finished in third place followed by No. 12 SCAD Savannah in fourth and No. 24 SCAD Atlanta in fifth.

Mercy Kibiwott led the Phoenix crossing the line in 18:34.4 to place 21st overall. She was followed by Sarah Wilkerson, who clocked a time of 19:05.4, finishing in 38th place. Sami Parker placed 63rd in 19:40.9, and Lauren Crissinger was close behind, securing 70th with a time of 19:48.9. Rounding out Cumberland's top five, Jenna Towles crossed in 20:03.5 for 82nd, collectively boosting the team to its eighth-place finish.

Additionally Channon Cundiff finished 87th at 20:07.9, and Alexa Rumpf took 95th with a time of 20:29.2. Lilah Mohler closed out the lineup for the Phoenix with a time of 20:55.9, placing 111th.

The event closes out the regular season for the women. The Phoenix will next compete at the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Ky. on November 1.
