Kibiwott Earns First Team Honors as Cumberland Take Third in MSC XC Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - - The Cumberland Women's Cross Country team competed in the Mid-South Conference Cross Country Championship and took third place, their highest finish since 2019.

Leading the Phoenix was Mercy Kibiwott, running a strong second half of her 6k to take 7th place. Her time of 22:16.8 was good enough to put her in the final spot to be named First Team All-Conference this fall.

Next up was Sarah Wilkerson who was just shy of being named to a conference team, finishing in 16th place with a time of 23:06.5. Finishing next to each other was Jenna Towles and Alexa Rumpf in 23rd and 24th with respective times of 24:03.5 and 24:05.1.

Their times were just faster than Lila Mohler who ran a 24:13 flat, good for 25th place.The next two runners for the Phoenix finished inside the same minute as the previous three, as Channon Cundiff and Daniela Rivera Rivas placed in 29th and 31st place and had times of 24:53.8 and 24:57.4.

Wrapping things up for the Phoenix was Lauren Crissinger with a time of 25:15.3, landing her in 36th place. With Cumberland taking their best finish in several years, Head Coach Josh McMillan was named Mid-South Conference Head Coach of the Season.

Cumberland will await the NAIA National Championships, set for October 22nd.
