Women's Soccer Ready to Host Indiana Wesleyan in NAIA National Championship

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland Women's Soccer is set to host the Second Round of the NAIA National Championship tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

The Phoenix earned the No. 15 overall seed in the field after earning an at-large berth. The Phoenix finished the season ranked No. 18 in the final NAIA Top 25 rankings and made it to the Mid-South Conference Finals. Cumberland holds a 12-5-2 record with four wins over teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25. 

This is Cumberland's sixth-consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Championship and their second-straight year hosting. The Phoenix are making their 10th appearance in the field overall. 

Indiana Wesleyan earned an at-large berth after finishing 13-4-2. The Wildcats lost in the Crossroads League Semifinals to No. 9 Marian 1-0. Indiana Wesleyan finished the season ranked at No. 16 in the final NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

The Wildcats' are also making their sixth-straight appearance in the field and their 12th overall appearance in the national tournament. 

This will be the third time the two sides have met. The Phoenix and Wildcats played a home and away set in 2017 and 2018. Cumberland and Indiana Wesleyan drew in Lebanon in 2017 and the Phoenix beat the Wildcats in 2018 in Marion. 

The Phoenix have been really good offensively this season scoring 87 games for an average of 4.58 goals per game. The Phoenix are conceding 1.11 goals per game.

Cumberland put five athletes on the Mid-South Conference All-Conference list. Grace Morris earned her fourth-consecutive First All-Conference honors at center back. Gabby Jones earned First Team All-Conference accolades and is the leading goal scorer with 19 goals and seven assists. Seika Ikezoe also earned First Team honors in the midfield. Ikezoe added 14 goals and nine assists. 

Kadisha Martina earned Second Team accolades with 17 goals and five assists this year. Ao Yamada also earned Second Team honors in the midfield scoring nine goals with 10 assists. 

Keeper Celia Martin is 3-2-2 in goal. She has made 15 saves this season. 

Indiana Wesleyan has scored 41 goals this season, an average of 2.16 goals per game. The Wildcats have been stout defensively this season conceding just 13 goals, an average of 0.68 goals per contest. 

The Wildcats put six players on the Crossroads League All-League list. Five players earned First Team honors including forward Jackie Norris, forward Katelyn VanderArk, forward Alyssa Hamann, keeper Avery Sluss, and midfielder Alejandra Tavarez.

Norris is the leading scorer for the Wildcats with eight goals and eight assists this season. VanderArk is just behind her with six goals and six helpers. Sarah Foulk has got six goals and six assists. 

Keeper Avery Sluss has posted a 13-4-2 record in net making 68 saves this season. She has contributed to 12 shutouts for the Wildcats.  

The game will be live on the Cumberland Sports Network for the 1:00 p.m. start. Pregame coverage will begin 10 minutes before kick.
