Samuel Secures Third Place in Long Jump and Forbes and Idamadudu notch Fastest Qualifying Times at NAIA National Championships

BROOKINGS, S.D.--Blessing Samuel secured the first All-American status for Cumberland with a third place finish in the long jump. Praise Idamadudu and Joel Forbes each posted the fastest qualifying times in their events and Doris Mensah qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles tomorrow. 

Praise Idamadudu had the 400m and 60m dash today. She qualified in second in the 400m with a time of 54.55 seconds, two-tenths of a second behind Soyinne Grenyion from Indiana Tech. Praise posted the fastest qualifying time in the 60m dash with a time of 7.34 seconds. 

Joel Forbes also posted the fastest qualifying time in the 800m. Forbes clocked in at 1:54.06. The second place finisher was Carter Gordon from Lewis-Clark State and he was just thousands of a second behind Forbes. 

Blessing Samuel secured a third place finish in the long jump finals. Samuel earns All-American honors and the first points for the Phoenix at the national championships. Samuel posted a mark of 5.73 meters. The winner, Machaeda Linton from William Carey posted a mark of 6.03 meters. 

Doris Mensah was the first on the track for Cumberland on day two. Mensah took on the 60m hurdles qualifying for the finals tomorrow with the eight-fastest time at 8.58 seconds. Mensah also posted a time of 7.55 seconds in the 60m dash for a 10th place finish. 

Ifunanya Muoghalu had a 10th place finish in the 400m finishing with a time of 55.89 seconds just missing the cut for finals on Saturday. 

Jhonatan Rodriguez Osorno, Benjamin Nyakudya, and Tahmar Upshaw competed in the 600m. Rodriguez Osorno just missed qualifying for the finals with a time of 1:20.13 finishing in ninth place, eight-hundredths of a second from qualifying. Nyakudya finished in 15th place with a time of 1:20.73 and Upshaw came in 25th with a time of 1:25.99. 

The Phoenix will finish out the championships tomorrow with finals competitions.
