Phoenix advance to Five Finals Events on Day Two of NAIA National Championships

MARION, Ind.-- On day two, Cumberland track and field secured five spots in final events scheduled for tomorrow. 

Doris Mensah started the day off for the Phoenix in the 100m hurdles. Mensah qualified for the finals slated for tomorrow with a time of 13.82 seconds, the second-fastest qualifying time in the event. 

Joel Forbes moved on to the 800m finals as well by qualifying with seventh-fastest time. Forbes posted a time of 1:51.24. Last season, Forbes finished as national runner-up in the event and will compete for the title tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.

Praise Idamadudu continues to impress at the championships posting the fastest qualifying time in the 400m. Idamadudu posted a time of 52.56 seconds, nearly a second faster than the next best time. Ifunanya Muoghalu finished with the third-best time in the event with a time of 54.35 seconds. The two will compete for a title tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Leesa Mutwanda, Muoghalu, Mensah, and Idamadudu notched the second-fastest qualifying time to advance to the finals tomorrow at 5:15 p.m.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Benjamin Nyakudya, Jhontan Rodriguez Osorno, and Lucas Phillips finished in 23rd in the event with a time of 3:18.88. 

Blessing Samuel just missed out on All-American honors in the triple jump finishing in 10th place with a mark of 11.86 meters.

Daveina Watson took 20th place in the shot put at 13.09 meters. 

Cumberland will finish out the 2024 Outdoor National Championships tomorrow. Each event tomorrow are finals events and the Phoenix will be in action in nine events.
