Men's Soccer Leap One Spot to No. 13 in NAIA Rankings

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University men's soccer has moved up to No. 13 in the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

The Phoenix have put together a strong stretch of results in Mid-South Conference play to earn the recognition as they beat Lindsey Wilson 3-2, played to a 0-0 draw with Bethel (Tenn.), and just yesterday took a big win at home over Freed-Hardeman.

Cumberland's attack continues to thrive, leading the Mid-South in a number of major categories, while Eric Zalaya was just named the NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week for his ten save shutout over Bethel (Tenn.) on the road.

Mid-South teams continue to be littered throughout the poll, with Lindsey Wilson leading the way at No. 5 and the Cumberlands just behind the Blue Raiders at No. 6. Bethel (Tenn.) remained undefeated up to this point and jumped their way to No. 18 in the polls, but didn't have enough to eclipse the Phoenix at No. 13.

Looking elsewhere in the NAIA, Oklahoma Wesleyan ascended to the No. 1 spot, climbing two positions after extending its unbeaten record to 9-0-3. MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) and Bethel (Ind.) also continued their steady rise, landing at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Keiser (Fla.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) each gained ground within the top 10.

Life (Ga.) delivered one of the week's biggest surges, jumping four spots to No. 12 behind an undefeated 10-0-2 mark, and Bethel (Tenn.) made a notable six-spot climb to No. 18.

Meanwhile, Dalton State (Ga.), last week's top-ranked program, fell to No. 10 after its first blemish of the season. Bellevue (Neb.) took the steepest drop, sliding from No. 11 to No. 24, while Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Marian (Ind.) also dipped several spots. The week's lone newcomer is Ottawa (Kan.), which entered the poll at No. 25 after previously receiving votes.
