Zalaya Wins Back-To-Back MSC Defensive Player of the Week Awards

LEBANON, Tenn. - - Phoenix Goalkeeper Eric Zalaya wins his second Defensive Player of the Week Award, the league announced Monday.

Zalaya was key in the Phoenix splitting the points between Bethel as he made ten saves in their match on Friday. This is the first time this season that the Wildcats have been denied a goal for the entire match.

The Wildcats were able to get 14 shots off, including nine in the first half, to go along with five corner kicks. The Spaniard was able to keep the Phoenix on track, even through a chaotic final stretch which included three yellow cards, five fouls, and two corner kicks.

This is Zalaya's second Defensive Player of the Week award of this season and of his career, and the second Phoenix to go back to back in the weekly awards after forward Philipp Schmidtke won the first two Offensive Player of the Week awards. This is also the sixth time a Phoenix has been awarded a conference player of the week award.

The Phoenix are back at home on Tuesday October 14th as they face off against Freed-Hardeman. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM.
