Double-Double in Debut Leads Buckley to MSC Defensive Player of the Week

LEBANON, Tenn. - - Cumberland senior guard Ty Buckley has been named the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.

Buckley made an immediate impact in her Cumberland debut as the Phoenix's defeated Oakwood (Ala.) 87-70 in their season opener. Buckley turned in a double-double with 12 rebounds and added three steals to lead a strong defensive effort.

The Meridian, Miss., native also contributed offensively with 13 points, shooting 5-of-18 from the field, while knocking down a pair of free throws and dishing out three assists in 28 minutes of action.

The award marks Buckley's first MSC weekly honor of her career.

The Phoenix are in action tonight on the road at Bryan College.
