Cumberland Climbs to No. 14 after Capturing MSC Regular Season Crown

LEBANON, Tenn.--Fresh off securing the Mid-South Conference Regular Season Championship, Cumberland women's soccer continues to rise on the national stage, climbing to No. 14 in the latest NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday by the national office.

The Phoenix (11-3-1, 5-0-1 MSC) wrapped up an unbeaten conference slate to lock in the No. 1 seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament, earning a bye to the semifinals where they will host on Wednesday, November 5 at noon against the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 4-seed Campbellsville and No. 5-seed Bethel.

Cumberland has went on a good run the last four matches outscoring opponents 25-3 over the final four matches of the regular season. The Phoenix posted statement victories over Georgetown and Campbellsville, capping the season on a four-match win streak.

With 62 goals across 15 matches, Cumberland ranks 11th nationally in total goals and averages 4.13 goals per game, good for 12th in the NAIA. The Phoenix also sit 11th nationally in assists (54) and 47th in shutouts (7) while limiting opponents to just 1.07 goals per game.

Cumberland's offensive efficiency has been a key factor in its success this season. The Phoenix boast a .194 shot percentage (29th nationally) and fire off over 20 shots per game, ranking 23rd in the country. Defensively, Cumberland has held opponents to fewer than 10 shots per match on average, backed by a disciplined back line. 

Seika Stull is third in the NAIA in assists this season with 16. Victoria Collins leads the Mid-South Conference in goals with 11 followed by Kadisha Martina in second with 10. Marina also leads the conference in points this season with 30 and is second in assists. 

William Carey (Miss.) reclaims the No. 1 national ranking, earning 10 first-place. Marian (Ind.) earned eight first place voted and moved up to No. 2. Keiser (Fla.) slipped from No. 1 to No. 3, Missouri Valley moved up to No. 4, and Oklahoma Wesleyan rounded out the top five at No. 5.

Cumberland joins fellow Mid-South programs No. 10 Cumberlands (Ky.) and No. 18 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in the top 25, giving the MSC three nationally ranked teams entering postseason play.

The Phoenix will enjoy a first-round bye before returning home to Phoenix Field for the conference semifinals on Wednesday, November 5 at noon. The winner will advance to the MSC Championship with a berth in the NAIA National Tournament on the line.
