Pau Ortega Is Awarded Mid-South Offensive Player of the Week Honors

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland freshman midfielder Pau Ortega has been named the Mid-South Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Ortega scored two goals and one assist this week, with a brace against Grace College and one assist on the first goal against Tennessee Southern for a total of five points scored on the week. Ortega also had three shots and two shots on goal.

The Spaniard has been a steady force in the midfield with his first goal of the week being the equalizer right before the halftime whistle was blown. Then his second goal was the insurance that was needed to put the Lancers away in the 84th minute.

Ortega has been called upon to take the left-footed set pieces for the Phoenix, which allowed him to get the opening assist on Alejandro Vega's goal off of a corner kick. Ortega has been excellent this season delivering the ball from the corner, and giving his teammates several opportunities.

This is the first award for Ortega in his career and is the second Phoenix to win the award after Philipp Schmidtke won the previous two player of the week awards.

The Phoenix are back at home tomorrow as they face Bryan College at 1:00 PM.
