Men’s Basketball Continues Their Kentucky Road Trip As They Face No. 18 Tigers

LEBANON, Tenn. -- Cumberland Men's Basketball tries to end a six-game losing streak as the Phoenix face No. 18 Georgetown on Saturday.

The Phoenix are looking for their first win in conference play and their first win in 2026. The offense is looking to improve from their performance against the Patriots on Thursday. The Phoenix were able to shoot 47% from the field, 20% from the three point line, and 64% from the free throw line.

Defensively, the Phoenix are looking to find some answers, as they allowed 14 three point makes to the Patriots and gave up 16 offensive rebounds.

Where the Phoenix thrive is in those chaotic moments where the ball is bouncing around. The Phoenix are second in the Mid-South in offensive rebounds (13) and total rebounds (40), while also being second in turnovers forced per game (16.5) and third in steals (8.9).

Individually, Triston Conger has emerged as one of the best scorers and facilitators in the Mid-South. The junior is third in the conference in scoring (19.2 ppg) and is leading the conference in assists (4.2 apg). Michael Nwoye has become a great second option while being a fantastic rebounder. The freshman is averaging a near double-double, averaging 12.9 ppg and 9.4 rebounds per game (which leads the conference). Nwoye also had a career night on Thursday, where the Antioch native scored 31 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and had three blocks and two steals. Behind Conger and Nwoye, Nick Brunetti (10.7 ppg) and Zaylin Rowland (9.5 ppg) provide solid scoring. Brunetti and Jake Hatch lead the team in three point shots made at 22 each.

Looking at the Tigers, they had a week off from their last matchup, where they beat Bethel 70-66 to get their first win in conference play. Georgetown's offense generates 85 points per game on 48% shooting from the field, which is third and second in the conference respectively. While the defense allows 69 points per game on 40% shooting from the field, which is also third and second in the conference respectively.

Individually, the Tigers are led by senior guard Isaiah Mason. Mason is averaging 14.6 points per game on 54.5% shooting from the field and 40% from three, while also getting 6.9 rebounds per game, which is second in the Mid-South. Rashad Bishop is their big presence down low, as the senior forward is averaging 13.4 points per game on 64% shooting, while also grabbing 6.1 rebounds per game. To round out the trio of double-digit scorers, senior guard Darien Lewis is averaging 10.2 points per game on 45% shooting from the field and 33% from three.
