Cumberland Cheer Finishes Third at MSC Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-- The Cumberland Phoenix cheerleading team delivered a strong performance at the Mid-South Conference Championship Cheer Competition, earning a third-place finish in both the preliminary and final rounds.

Cumberland opened the competition with a score of 80.0 in the preliminary round, placing the Phoenix in third heading into the final round. The preliminary round accounts for 25 percent of the overall team score, while the final round makes up the remaining 75 percent.

The Phoenix performed third in the final round and posted a score of 79.91, securing a third-place finish overall. Georgetown placed second with a score of 92.28, while the University of the Cumberlands captured the Mid-South Conference Championship with a 95.08. Midway finished fourth with a 70.71, followed by Lindsey Wilson with a 66.94.

Cumberland also saw several athletes recognized for their accomplishments. Abby Clem earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Trissa Babcock, Aubrey Dorris, Ali'shah Gezley, Jessica Harpley, Sandra McAfee, Robert Polidan, Jennifer Swift, and Addison VanWinkle were all named to the Mid-South Conference Cheerleading Academic Team. Taylor Tylenda was selected to the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character Team.

The Phoenix will now turn their attention to travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., to compete in the NCA College Nationals on April 9-10.
