Phoenix Sit in Top 3 After Day One of NCA College Nationals

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - - Cumberland University's cheer team is moving on to the finals at the NCA College Nationals after a strong finish in the Intermediate All Girls NAIA Prelims on Friday. 

The Phoenix placed third out of eight teams in the preliminary round with a raw score of 77.1333 after 2.75 points in deductions, with an event score of 20.7384 locking in a spot in Saturday's final round.

Hope International University set the pace for the division, earning the top spot with a raw score of 83.7333 and had zero points in deductions and an event score of 23.2593. Texas Wesleyan University is in second with a raw score of 83.5333 and had a .25 point deduction and an event score of 23.1412. 

Behind the Phoenix is St Xavier University with a raw score of 73.3333, a .75 point deduction, and an event score of 20.1828 to place them in fourth. Marian University sits at fifth place with a raw score of 73.7, they had a 1.5 point deduction, and an event score of 20.0972.

Columbia College sits at sixth with a raw score of 70.1 and had a .5 point deduction with an event score of 19.3472. Friends University sits in seventh with a raw score of 72.0333, a four point deduction, and a score of 19.0093 for the event. Montreat College rounds out the field sitting in eighth with a raw score of 63.0333, an .75 point deduction, and an event score of 17.3218.

The Phoenix will compete in the finals tomorrow at 7:50 AM CT in Daytona Beach, Fla.
