Phoenix Women Wrap Up Lee University Invitational

CLEVELAND, Tenn.--Cumberland women's track & field wrapped up competition at the Lee University Invitational on day two with a personal-best performance and a top-five finish in the field events.

Leading the way for the Phoenix was Leesa Mutandwa, who cleared 1.60 meters to finish fourth out of 19 competitors in the high jump while also recording a personal best.

On the track, Wendy Komane paced Cumberland in the 1500 meters with a 15th-place finish in a field of 54 runners, clocking a time of 5:03.94. Alexa Rumpf followed with a personal-best performance of 5:29.46 to place 34th.

In the distance events, Laykin Ellis competed in the 5000 meters, finishing 28th with a time of 21:04.07.

Cumberland also saw action in the throwing events, where Avery Crockett competed in both the discus and shot put. Crockett recorded a mark of 19.33 meters (63-05) in the discus and a throw of 8.71 meters (28-07.00). Rita Francis added a mark of 7.63 meters (25-00.50) in the shot put to round out Cumberland's performances on the women's side.

The Phoenix will travel to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the UAB Spring Invitational next weekend.
