Watson Highlights Day Two with Top 5 NAIA Mark

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Cumberland University wrapped up competition at the Jim Freeman / Clark Woods Invitational on Friday highlighted by a Top 5 mark in the NAIA. 

Daveina Watson continued her strong season in the shot put, finishing seventh with a mark of 14.65 meters. The throw improves upon her previous season-best and adds to her NAIA "A" standard mark, while ranking as the fourth-best performance in the NAIA this year.

Sinisterra closed out the decathlon with a seventh-place finish, totaling 6,331 points, currently the 15th-best mark in the NAIA this season and within national qualifying range. He turned in a personal-best performance in the javelin throw with a mark of 45.44 meters, while also adding solid efforts in the 110-meter hurdles (15.60), discus (36.62m), pole vault (3.10m), and the 1,500 meters (4:47.75).

On the track, Abdoulaye Bah placed 10th out of 67 runners in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 21.27 seconds, just shy of the NAIA "B" standard (21.13). 

Bela Brandle also recorded a personal best in a deep 800-meter field, finishing ninth of 71 competitors in 1:53.25.

In distance action, Matteo Abel posted a time of 15:24.61 in the 5,000 meters taking eighth place out of 33 runners.
 
The Phoenix will wrap up competition in the Bluegrass State tomorrow with the final day of the invitational.
