Fredriksson Kicks Off NAIA National Championship at TPC Deere Run

SILVIS, Ill. - - Gustav Fredriksson began his individual campaign at the NAIA National Championships at TPC Deere Run this afternoon, teeing off just past two in the afternoon in Silvis.

Fredriksson teed off alongside another pair of individuals, Jose Vidal from Oakland City and Francisco DeBethencourt from Milligan, kicking their tournament off on the back nine. The Swede started slowly on his first 11 holes, shooting six over through that time, but began to find a rhythm as his first round came to a close.

Fredriksson fired in six straight par shots from holes three through hole eight, helping to steady his ship in a massive 19-player tie for 97th place overall with a score of seven over.

Leading the tournament is a group of four players, while the most impressive team showing is well represented at the top of the individual rankings and team rankings combined. The University of Science and Arts in Oklahoma have two players tied for first place at two under, while their team sits atop the charts as a unit, shooting one over par with their scoring lineup.

Last season's Champions and the Phoenix's MSC rivals, Lindsey Wilson, sit in a tie for third place, while fellow conference foes, Cumberlands Patriots, are in 20th place.

Fredriksson will be back in action tomorrow, teeing off at 9:00am with his same group from this morning. In order to make the cut and continue his tournament, Gustav will need to fire himself higher in the standings, needing to sit top six individually in order to make the cut.
