Fredriksson Closes National Championship with 72

SILVIS, Ill.--Cumberland's Gustav Fredriksson wrapped up play at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship on Wednesday morning at TPC Deere Run, carding a second-round 72.

Fredriksson narrowly missed the individual cut, which advanced only the top six individuals not on qualifying teams into the final two rounds of the NAIA National Championship. Fredriksson finished tied for 60th place at 149 strokes.

After opening the championship with a 77 (+7) on Tuesday, Fredriksson bounced back with a much-improved effort in round two. The Cumberland junior turned in an even-par 34 on the front nine. He started bogey-birdie-bogey before settling into playing one-under the rest of the six holes on the front with five pars and a birdie on No. 8.

After starting with a par on 10 on the back, he posted a triple bogey on No. 11, but recovered with pars on 12 and 13, a birdie on 14. He posted back-to-back bogeys on 15 and 16 before finishing the round with birdie-birdie. He finished the back two-over to shoot two-over on the day to finish the championship strong.

Despite the solid second-round performance, Fredriksson will miss the cut as only the top six individual golfers not competing on advancing teams move on to the final two rounds of the NAIA National Championship.

Oklahoma City has taken over the team-lead after posting the best-round of the tournament firing a two-under as a team. Oklahoma City is eight strokes ahead of second place Friends University. The Stars currently have the top two scores in the tournament with Carter Ray in the lead at two-under and Christian Yanovitch in second at even-par.

Around the conference, Lindsey Wilson makes the cut for a chance to defend their title. The Blue Raiders have some ground to make up sitting in third place at 19-over, 11 shots back of Oklahoma City. The University of the Cumberlands missed the cut finishing tied for 20th place at 42-over par.
