LEBANON, Tenn. -- After an undefeated three-game stretch, which included a 9-0 conference road shutout, Uxia Varela and Sydney Eads take the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Awards.

The Spaniard had a big offensive impact for the Phoenix in their three games this week, with the late equalizer in the 1-1 draw against West Virginia Tech. Varela also scored three goals in Cumberland's 9-0 stomping of Freed Hardeman on the road. 

This is the Spaniard's first Offensive Player of the Week award and the first of her career. As a team, the Phoenix have their second Offensive Player of the Week Award, and Varela is joined by Senior goalkeeper Sydney Eads in the weekly honors as the Blacklick, Ohio native wins the Mid-South Defensive Player of the Week Award.

Eads played a pivotal role in helping the Phoenix earn two wins and a draw during the week, recording her second shutout in conference play in a dominant 9-0 victory over Freed-Hardeman.

The senior goalkeeper averaged four saves per game, highlighted by an 11-save performance across two highly contested matchups against West Virginia Tech and No. 24 SCAD. Eads allowed just two goals across the pair of matches, helping Cumberland secure valuable results.

The honor marks Eads' first Defensive Player of the Week award this season.

The Phoenix will honor Varela, Eads and all the other seniors on Tuesday September 22nd, as Cumberland hosts Williams Baptist on Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
