Forbes and Nyakudya Qualify for Nationals with Top 5 Times

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Joel Forbes and Benjamin Nyakudya each qualify for Nationals with Top 5 times in the 600 meter on the first day of the Commodore Challenge at Vanderbilt.

Forbes posted a fourth place finish in the 600 meter and ran the event in 1:19.44 to post the third-fastest time in the NAIA. The time earns him "A" standards to qualify for the Indoor National Championships. Benjamin Nyakudya finished in 10th place crossing with a time of 1:20.85. His time fell just short of "A" standards, but landed him with the fifth-best time in the NAIA.

Lucas Phillips and Isaacs Mudzimukunze each ran in the 300 meter with Phillips taking 18th at 36.22 seconds and Mudzimukunze finishing in 27th at 36.97 seconds.

Lynden Johnson took a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash. Johnson posted a time of 22.17 seconds, .37 seconds away from NAIA "B" standards. Nsikak Akpan came in 14th place at 22.82 seconds

Elliott Hughes tok on the 1000 meter finishing in 17th with a time of 2:37.58.

In the field events, Liyu Scarlassara and Mackey Bonds each took on the high jump. Scarlassara finished in 11th place at 1.90 meters and Bonds came in 15th at 1.84 meters.

Bonds also took on the long jump finishing in 13th place at 6.81 meters. Ahmed Demerdash came in 27th in the event at 5.85 meters.

Juan Orejuela De La Rosa picked up a 17th place finish in the weight throw with a best mark of 12.97 meters.

The second day of the Commodore Challenge will begin tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. with the shot put slated to start the day.
