Phoenix Men Notch Two National Standards at South Alabama Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Cumberland's men's track and field team showcased their skills at the South Alabama Invitational taking on top competition across all collegiate levels. The Phoenix notched two NAIA national standards at the event.

In the 60m dash, Nsikak Akpan secured 11th with a swift time of 6.93 seconds. Shawn Katsidzira and Dinkon Sinisterra demonstrated their hurdling skills, securing the 16th and 27th positions in the 60m hurdles, respectively.

In the 200m, Nsikak Akpan claimed the 15th spot with a time of 22.32 seconds, while Joel Forbes and Isaacs Mudzimukunze showcased their speed in the 400m, securing the 18th and 25th positions, respectively. The 800m race witnessed outstanding performances by Joel Forbes, Jhonatan Rodriquez Osorno, and Tahmar Upshaw, who claimed the 3rd, 5th, and 7th positions, respectively.

Charles Hughes secured the 20th position in the mile with a time of 4:34.38. In the field events,

Juan Orejuela De La Rosa stood out in the Shot Put, claiming the 4th position with a throw of 16.25m, meeting the A standard and marking the 10th-best throw in the NAIA this season.

Amir Mersal shone in the Triple Jump, securing the 7th position with a mark of 14.32m, achieving the B standard and earning the 18th-best jump. Liyu Scarlassara and Ahmed Demerdash also made notable contributions in the Long Jump and Triple Jump events, showcasing the team's versatility and depth.

The Phoenix have their final indoor meet next Friday and Saturday at the Music City Invitational at Vanderbilt before post-season competition.
