Cumberland Men's Track and Field Secures Four First-Place Finishes to Conclude UAB Spring Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-- In the competitive second day of the UAB Spring Invitational, Cumberland men's track and field clinched 12 top-ten finishes, including four first-place victories.

Lyden Johnson was a standout performer for CU, blazing to victory in the 100m with a time of 10.64 seconds. He also impressed with a third-place finish in the 200m, clocking in at 21.91 seconds and adding 16 points to the team's total.

Shawn Katsidzira represented the Phoenix well in the 110m hurdles, securing a solid fourth-place finish with a time of 15.35 seconds.

Jhonatan Rodriquez Osorno set a new PR in the 400m, finishing fourth with a time of 49.79 seconds. Lucas Phillips also had a strong showing, taking tenth place in the same event with a time of 50.62 seconds.

Cumberland dominated the 800m, claiming the top three spots and earning 24 points. Joel Forbes led the pack with a time of 1:52.78. Tamar Upshaw and Jhonatan Rodriquez Osorno finished second and third, respectively, both setting new PRs with times of 1:54.16 and 1:54.17.

The team excelled in the relay events, taking first place in both the 4x100 and 4x400. The 4x100 team of Benjamin Nyakudya, Damiah Smith, Johnson, and Katsidzira clocked a season's best time of 42.06 seconds. The 4x400 team of Lucas Phillips, Tahmar Upshaw, Joel Forbes, and Nyakudya also set a season's best with a time of 3:17.54.

In the field events, Juan Orejuela De La Rosa achieved a personal best in the shot put, taking third place with a throw of 16.50 meters. 

Ahemed Demerdash secured second place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.94 meters.

The University of Alabama will host Cumberland's next meet as the team heads to Tuscaloosa to compete in the Alabama Relays on April 5.
