Bokpin shined at the Commodore Challenge on Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Mustapha Bokpin shined at the Commodore Challenge on Saturday at Vanderbilt highlighting the men's efforts in the one day event.

The Commodore Challenge was originally scheduled to be a two-day event, but Vanderbilt pushed it to a one-day meet with all the snow and ice in the area.

Bokpin led the way for the Phoenix with a stellar showing in the sprints. He placed second in the 60-meter prelims with an NAIA "A" standard time of 6.70 seconds, qualifying for the finals. In the finals, he clocked 6.68 seconds to finish third overall, posting the third-best time in the NAIA this season. The first place and second place finishers each came from William Carey posting the first and second best time in the NAIA this season. Bokpin continued his strong showing in the 200 meters, finishing second out of 26 competitors with a time of 21.44 seconds, narrowly missing the "A" standard by one-hundredth of a second. His mark ranks as the fourth-best in the NAIA so far this season.

Renaldo Savoury advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.91 seconds in the prelims to place eighth. He matched his qualification spot in the finals, finishing eighth with a time of 9.02 seconds. Teammate Dinkon Sinisterra narrowly missed the hurdle finals, running 8.95 seconds to finish ninth in the prelims.

In the field events, Sinisterra also competed in the high jump, finishing 18th with a leap of 6.29 meters. He capped off his day in the shot put, throwing 10.98 meters to place eighth.

Veron Ifill also represented Cumberland in the sprints, running 7.05 seconds in the 60-meter prelims and 22.99 seconds in the 200 meters, finishing 21st and 22nd, respectively.

The Phoenix will be back at Vanderbilt next Friday and Saturday to take place in a two day event.
